This recipe was submitted by Helen. A typical Mexican Christmas drink, served hot. This sweet drink is an indispensable part of the month, as well as a delicious and aromatic tradition, with tejocote and guava giving it its traditional flavour.

  • 25 Tejo Court
  • 15 guavas
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 cups prunes
  • 300 grams tamarind or hibiscus
  • 6 pieces sugar cane
  • 4 apples
  • 1/2 orange cut into slices
  • 6 pieces cinnamon (sliced ​​into 15cm pieces)
  • Piloncillo Flavor or Substitute for Sugar
  • 25-30 cups of water

Preparation:

Wash the fruit and cut it into medium-sized pieces for snacking.

Heat a pot of water and add the cinnamon, tejocote, and piloncillo. Cook over high heat for 15 minutes.

Add the prunes, hibiscus, tamarind, and sugar cane. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Add guava, apple and orange. Simmer for another 15 minutes and serve.

You can also add a little rum or brandy, depending on your preference.
