Christmas Punch – Mexican Recipe

Traditionally, punch is served hot during the Christmas holidays. It is made with piloncillo and various fruits. This recipe is simplified.

  • 6 small apples (core, peel and slice)
  • 12 guavas (cut in half)
  • 1-1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped prunes
  • 6 oranges, washed and cut (with skin)
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 1/2 liters of water
  • 2 cups brown sugar or to taste
  • taste rum

Preparation:

In a large saucepan over high heat, combine apples, guavas, raisins, plums, oranges, cinnamon, and water.

Bring fruit mixture to a boil and reduce heat to low. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 1 hour.

Add sugar, cover, and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes. Add the rum and simmer for another 5 minutes. Taste and add more sugar if necessary.

Serve hot punch.
