Melon Horchata - Mexican Recipe

Melon Horchata – Mexican Recipe

Melon seeds, which would normally be thrown away, can be ground up with water to create a refreshing drink. If you don’t use the melon for any other purpose, you can cut it into cubes and keep it floating each time you eat it. You can sweeten this traditional Mexican horchata with honey and vanilla.

material: Makes 6 servings

  • 1 medium cantaloupe seed (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • honey to taste

Preparation:

Grind the melon seeds with 2 cups of water in a blender until as smooth as possible.

Pour the mixture through a strainer into a large jug.

Return the remaining seed pieces from the strainer to the blender and blend with 2 more cups of water, vanilla, salt, and honey.

Strain the mixture into a jug as well. Stir well and add more honey if needed.

Add ice and enjoy chilled.
